Services

Licenses

We license all dogs aged 4 months or older. Annual licenses are $10 for spayed and neutered animals, $20 for intact animals. Senior Citizens (62 and over) receive a half-price discount for spayed or neutered animals only.

The Healdsburg Animal Shelter licenses dogs owned by residents of the City of Healdsburg only. >> Click here << to apply for a license online. For other licensing needs, please contact the Sonoma County Animal Regulation at (707) 565-7100.

Microchips

Microchips are a permanent form of identification and a great idea for all pets. All animals adopted from our shelter are microchipped before going home. Microchipping your pet takes less than five minutes and is as painless as a vaccine injection. Most shelters and veterinarians will microchip your pet and we do it here at the Shelter for 15 per pet. Microchipping is available Tuesday through Saturday from 11 AM until 4 PM. Call us for more information.

Spay / Neuter Assistance

Spaying and neutering your pet is highly recommended for all animals. Spaying and neutering contributes to healthier and safer pets: it stops pets from wandering, decreases the risk of cancer and stops the birth of unwanted puppies and kittens (and bunnies and guinea pigs). All Shelter animals are surgically sterilized prior to going home.

We have limited funds to assist low income pet owners within the City of Healdsburg in spaying or neutering their pets. For more information on this program, please contact the Shelter at (707) 431-3386. It's best to have your pet altered before sexual maturity, but remember it's never too late to "fix" your pet! Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Stray Animal Impound and Redemption (Lost Pets!)

The Healdsburg Animal Shelter accepts stray animals from within the city limits. If you have found a stray cat or dog, you may either bring it into the Animal Shelter Tuesday through Saturday between 9 AM and 5 PM or call us at (707) 431-3383 to arrange a pick up. For collection of animals found outside of the Healdsburg city limits, please call Sonoma County Animal Regulation at (707) 565-7100. If you have lost your pet and live within the city limits, visit the Animal Shelter as soon as possible to look for you pet and to file a lost report. Animal viewing times are Tuesday through Saturday form 11 to 4, and Sundays from 12 to 4. If you live outside the city limits, please contact your local shelter, animal control agency or police or sheriff's department. Typically, there is a fine to redeem your animal.

Owned Animal Surrender and Adoption

We will accept from Healdsburg residents owned animals who are no longer wanted or can no longer be kept. Upon occasion, we can accept animals from outside Healdsburg, if space permits. Please be aware that we do not guarantee placement of any animal. Ability to place depends upon the health, age and temperament of the animal and on available space in the Shelter. There is no fee to surrender a pet; however, we do hope you will consider a donation to help with his or her care while staying with us. Please call ahead at (707) 431-3386 before bringing your pet to us.

Animal Control

As a private nonprofit organization, we contract with the City of Healdsburg to provide animal control services. This includes, but is not limited to, impounding stray animals, responding to barking and other nuisance calls, and investigating reports of cruelty and neglect. We offer animal control services to the residents of the City of Healdsburg, Tuesday through Saturday from 9 AM until 5 PM. If you are a resident of Healdsburg and need assistance with an aggressive or injured stray animal outside of these times, please contact the Healdsburg Police department at (707) 431-3377. If you are not a resident of the City of Healdsburg, Sonoma County Animal Regulation is your service provider for all animal control issues. You may reach them at (707) 565-7100. Click here to review the City of Healdsburg's Animal Control Ordinance.

Euthanasia and Cremation

We offer private or group cremation services for your beloved pets. Prices range from $30 to $220 depending upon the weight of the animal. We also offer euthanasia. Appointments are necessary. For more information, call the Shelter at (707) 431-3386.
