Skunks are cute, but...

. . but their perfume is not! Unfortunately, dogs cannot seem to
resist checking out these little ambling creatures, even if they
have had unpleasant encounters in the past. One spray from the
highly specialized anal glands of the skunk can ruin the day for
both dog and owner. Though the spray can be irritating to the eyes
and mucous membranes, there is no permanent damage. The noxious
odor can remain on the pet for some time if not dealt with
effectively.
Here is the best formula for removing this noxious odor: Mix 1/4
cup of baking soda in 1 quart of hydrogen peroxide with 1
tablespoon of dish detergent. Wash your dog with warm water and mix
the solution into your pet, concentrating on bad areas. Leave on
for 10 minutes and rinse off. Repeat as needed. Be sure to protect
your dog's eyes with lubricant or your hands when applying the
mixture. If there is any evidence of a bite, contact your vet as
skunks can carry rabies.
