Get ticked off!

Ticks can be much more than a mere nuisance.
Ticks in this area can and do carry debilitating illnesses and
should not be tolerated on our pets. We have all heard about Lyme
disease but other diseases with names like anaplasmosis and
erlichiosis are also a problem. It is the opinion of many in the
veterinary field that ticks may be carrying diseases yet to be
identified. In this modern age there is no reason to tolerate ticks
on your dog or cat. A tick found attached to your pet should be
removed as soon as possible.
Several products are effective in reducing or eliminating ticks
from biting and attaching to our pets. Frontline can be used in
cats and dogs. In dogs, other products like Advantix can eliminate
or diminish infestation. In areas of high infestation Preventic
collars are particularly effective and may be worn in addition to
the above flea/tick products. A new product called Certifect has
promise to be an outstanding topical flea and tick agent on dogs.
One topical application will last for both fleas and ticks for a
full month. It also kills more species of ticks than other topical
products and is the only topical product that will cause ticks
already attached to release.
