Volunteer

The Healdsburg Animal Shelter couldn't operate without our wonderful volunteers. And we always need more! We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities and try to match each person's skills with the activities they most enjoy. Volunteers of any age are welcome, but volunteers under 15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact the Shelter if you are interested in helping with any of the following:

Newsletter production: We are looking for someone with newsletter production, graphic design, and/or PageMaker skills to help us in the production of our quarterly informational and fundraising newsletter.

Shelter Workers and Cat Cuddlers assist the staff in caring for our cats and dogs. They groom, cuddle, play with the cats and kittens, walk and play with the dogs, do obedience training and, in general ensure that our animals get all of the affection and socialization they need.

Foster Parents raise kittens and puppies in their homes, making sure they get the attention necessary during their first few months. We also foster adult cats and dogs who need some special TLC or who cannot adjust to shelter life. Because condition can become overcrowded, we often need Foster Parents to assist us. If you can temporarily open your home to a cat or dog, please call us.

Office helpers assist the community with adoptions and licensing, answer the telephone and keep the "business side" of the shelter running smoothly. Computer literate volunteers are always needed, but computer experience isn't necessary to help in the office.

Outreach volunteers make school presentations, staff mobile adoptions and take part in special events. This is a good opportunity for those who want to volunteer on a limited basis.

Fundraisers are always needed. We always welcome ideas and suggestions on building our financial resources to keep the shelter operating and improving. We also need volunteers to assist at fundraising events throughout the year. Fundraising is another opportunity for those with limited time to help.
